Football games, as a rule, are not staid
But sometimes there is history made
Johnny’s Colts would not yield
They marched straight down the field
To win the Greatest Game Ever Played
Event: The Baltimore Colts win “The Greatest Game Ever Played,” that year’s championship and the first NFL playoff game to end in sudden death overtime
Year: 1958

OK, I give–why was it the greatest game ever played? (I suspect at least a couple of people may respond to this comment.)

Probably because of the sudden-death overtime and the fact it was the championship. I would say it was because the Giants lost, but then again I’m always pretty pleased to see a sports team from New York get taken down.
